On Saturday June 27th, 2015 NASA and the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex opened a new exhibit entitled Forever Remembered. Encompassing nearly 2,000 square feet, the memorial contains the largest collection of personal items of both Challenger and Columbia flight crews. It also includes recovered hardware from both Challenger and Columbia, never before on display for viewing by the public.
The final room in the memorial features three multi-screen high-definition video displays. One shows samples of cards and letters sent to NASA in the wake of the accidents. One child wrote: I know being an astronaut is dangerous. But they were brave enough to follow their dreams. A second display chronicles NASA’s recovery from the two disasters, including the collection and analysis of debris. The third display highlights the “return to flight” missions that followed Challenger and Columbia after lengthy investigations.
RDGs role in the exhibit included providing a Turnkey 4K ultra-high definition video wall solution. The Turnkey 4K solution included three mosaic video walls, audio and video player hardware and software, mechanical design, fire alarm interface, and control hardware. Additionally, RDG produced the unique 4K media content playing on each wall, in collaboration with representatives from NASA and the Visitor Complex operator Delaware North Inc.
RDG produced the Turnkey 4K product under contract with Vencore Services and Solutions Inc., meeting all project milestones on schedule and within budget. RDG President Brian Karr summed up this amazing project, Working as a team with NASA, Delaware North, and Vencore to create this special memorial was an honor to be a part of.
